MagicJohn 15W MagSafe Stand: A Bedside Charger That Lasts

The MagicJohn magsafe charging stand is the rare third-party MagSafe accessory that delivers genuine 15W MFi-certified charging. Most stands at this price point cap out at 7.5W and slow down further as the iPhone heats up; this one held 15W until the iPhone hit its own thermal cap.

What we tested

Charging speed measured at the wall (USB-C power meter inline) over a full 0-100% cycle on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, plus a separate StandBy mode test (iPhone left on the stand overnight to verify the always-on display stays bright). We also ran a stress test charging from 50% to 80% repeatedly to check thermal throttling.

Charging performance

Wall draw averaged 18W during the bulk charging phase (the stand's own conversion efficiency plus the 15W to the iPhone), dropping to ~5W as the battery saturated. Total time to 100% was 78 minutes from 0% — within 4 minutes of Apple's reference puck. StandBy mode displayed at full brightness without any flicker or drop-out.

Build & feel

The aluminium body stays cool to the touch even after a full charge cycle — a meaningful difference from plastic competitors that get noticeably warm. The angle adjustment is smooth and locks firmly at any position. The base is weighted enough that one-handed unmount of the iPhone doesn't tip the stand.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants a bedside or desk MagSafe stand that won't disappoint after six months. If you only ever travel, a foldable puck is more practical.
