MagicJohn Apple Watch Ultra Screen Protector: Bezel Wrap That Works

8.7 / 101 min read
Apple Watch Ultra with bezel-wrap screen protector

Pros

  • Wraps around bezel — protects edges and screen in one piece
  • No effect on touch sensitivity or always-on dimming
  • Correctly cuts out the digital crown

Cons

  • Adds 0.6 mm to the overall thickness
  • Two-piece install takes practice

The MagicJohn apple watch ultra screen protector is a two-piece design that hugs the titanium bezel and sits flush over the sapphire — protecting both the edge of the case and the screen from impact in a single fit.

What we tested

Three weeks of CrossFit class, two weeks of trail running, and a deliberate "scrape against a doorframe" test that historically chips the bare titanium bezel. We also measured touch sensitivity through the protector for both Force Touch and standard taps, and checked always-on display dimming behaviour.

Install

The two-piece install (frame first, then film) is not as easy as a single-piece protector — give yourself ten minutes and decent lighting the first time. The included alignment tray is useful and we recommend using it. After install the protector is invisible under normal viewing conditions; you can spot the seam under raking light if you look for it.

Living with it

Touch sensitivity was identical to the bare watch in our calibrated tap test. Always-on dimming behaved correctly. After three weeks of gym use the protector was still in place with no edge lift; the bezel underneath was unscratched where it would otherwise have been chipped.

Who it's for

Active Apple Watch Ultra owners. If you don't care about edge protection, a single-piece sapphire-only protector is easier to install and 0.3 mm thinner.
